Proficiently is a free study tool. It works without an account, and almost everything you do here stays on your own device. This page explains the few exceptions, in plain language.
What we collect
Only two things, and both are optional.
A name and a contact detail
On your first visit we ask for a name and an email address or phone number. This is optional — you can choose “Skip for now” and use the entire site without giving us anything. If you do enter them, they are saved to a private spreadsheet that we use only to count how many people use the app.
Essay text you send for AI feedback
If you ask for AI feedback on something you have written, that text is sent to our AI provider so it can generate a response. We do not keep a copy afterwards.
What we do not collect
There are no passwords, because there are no accounts. We use no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies, and we do not build a profile of your browsing. Your answers, scores, saved words and review schedule live only in your own browser's local storage and never reach our servers.
Where your data goes
A small number of services are involved in running the site:
- Vercel — hosts the site and serves every request. Ordinary server logs, which include IP addresses, are handled by them.
- Google Sheets — stores the optional name and contact detail from your first visit.
- Together AI — receives your writing only at the moment you request AI feedback.
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with anyone beyond these services.
How long we keep it
A name and contact detail stay in the spreadsheet until you ask us to remove them, or until the project closes. Anything held in your own browser stays until you clear it — you can erase all of it at any time from the Settings page.
Your choices
You can use every part of this site without giving any personal information at all. If you did share a name or contact detail and want it gone, email us and we will delete the row — you do not need to give a reason. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to ask what we hold about you or to have it corrected.
Children
This site is meant for people preparing for university entrance exams. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this page
If this policy changes, we will update the date shown at the top of this page.
